The Tingira Australia Association will stage the JR REUNION 2015 to be held in Sydney from Monday 9th November to Friday 13th November in 2015. (12 months time) “This will be the biggest navy reunion to be held in Sydney for many years. The Tingira team is excited and are now prepared to deliver a great week for our Tingira Members, former Junior Recruit (JR) shipmates and all associated with the Tingira Boys of past and present in Sydney” said Tingira President Lance Ker. “We have a few surprise’s in store, it’s all about tradition and commemoration combined with renewing and making new friendships. HMAS Vampire in Darling Harbour at the Australian National Maritime Museum, the Tingira Memorial at Rose Bay and the RAN Naval Heritage Museum at Garden Island will play a major role in the week long activities for these dedicated past and present ‘JR’ sailors of the RAN”. Tingira Australia Association Patron, Vice Admiral Russ Crane (Retired) said “This reunion has been in the making for a long time, essentially since we last regrouped at Leeuwin Barracks in 2010 for the 50 year commemoration of HMAS Leeuwin. We all started our navy careers as 15 and 16 year old sailors over there in the West, now we have a revamped Tingira Memorial here in the East. Exciting times ahead for the Association.” “Former Tingira Presidents Chris Perrin, Greg Read and new president Lance Ker, have worked tirelessly with their committee’s over the past four years led by Association Secretary Mark Lee, to get the Junior Recruits united into this new Tingira Australia Association. Bringing them together again for a reunion here on the eastern seaboard with over 1,000 participants expected, is a credit to them all, this is a real navy logistics exercise in full operation”. Tingira Treasurer, Peter Stephenson, has added one very special social event that will bring a smile to many faces with the announcement of the ‘Tingira Golf Championship’. To be held on the Tuesday morning over 18 championship holes at the prestigious Moore Park Golf Club, Sydney, this is sure to be competitive with the boys still displaying their edge from their junior days on the fairways! The main commemoration ceremony will be on Wednesday 11 November at 11am. with the unveiling of the upgraded Tingira Memorial, Rose Bay. This will see the launch of the completed Tingira story with the dedication to the ‘HMAS Leeuwin’ component of this naval heritage residing here in Sydney. The ‘Grand JR Reunion Gala Dinner’ will be held at the ‘Big Top Arena’ Luna Park, Milsons Point, North Sydney. The Thursday evening will delight the renewed friendships with some big musical entertainment from the Beatnix and the ‘Lady of Tingira’ Miss Amber Lawrence on the microphone. A tour of Sydney Harbour with a final luncheon at the Naval Heritage Museum Garden Island will be another featured highlights of the week with many JR intakes having the evenings and weekends to hold their own reunions with fellow shipmates from their Junior Recruit days at HMAS Leeuwin. On line bookings commence 8am 1st November 2014 for all activities. www.jrreunion.org.au Enquiries… E tingirasec@gmail.com
