Australia Day – It only seems like Christmas last week and next week it’s February, how time still flies! Been down to ANZAC Memorial for this mornings 11am service and laid a wreath for all ADF members on behalf of ‘All Ships Associations’. Good crowd in town and great to see the RSL Corp of Guards out in their smart maroon and gold uniforms!
Now Tingira is sailing along at a good rate of knots, so here is a brief update of a few things for 2014 and beyond we have on the drawing board. Confirmation on all this within 3-6 weeks as a few things develop as we all get back into work mode!
The Tingira committee have decided to bring the AGM and the annual dinner forward from from thursday 24th April to Saturday March 1st 2014. It was just a TAD busy for a few of the lads, especially the boys wearing the RSL hats on that day as well.
We are required to have to have an annual election and it has been proposed that we move to a three year term, so that’s one piece of official business we can disclose before the meeting as those standing will be asked to commit to a three year term on committee. AGM notice and nomination form will be on the website soon.
The AGM and Tingira annual dinner will be in Sydney at 7pm at the old Sergeants Mess, North Head Army Barracks, Manly. If you have never been there you will see why the Army never wanted to leave this place! Vice President JR Dave Ruckert is organising the event. Bookings can be made direct via the website early February. There is a limit of 70 seats, that’s 35 doubles, as the partners are most welcome to this prestigious dress up event.
ANZAC Day – We will march in Sydney with luncheon on completion as per the last two years. Patron Russ Crane will march with us this year again. JR John Goss will be organising a Melbourne contingent for the first time, as will JR Paul Kalajzich in Perth, standby for more details in the next 30 days on that event!
We are also in the throws of organising a function with our Canberra members with a proposal to attend the AWM for the commemoration of the Coral Sea battle in the first week of May. Again standby for further details.
Now some big breaking news – I recently had a meeting with Wollahra Council here n Sydney and we are proposing to add a new HMAS Leeuwin section to the Tingira Memorial at Rose Bay. Council are very warm and welcome to our proposal and would like to upgrade the run down Tingira Park at the same time. If we can ‘line up the stars’ in the next 30-90 days and make it happen, we will envisage a JR Reunion at Rose Bay in the week of November 11th 2015. This is 30 years to the day HMAS Leeuwin was decommissioned as the Junior Recruit Training Establishment, a day for us to commemorate!
That’s it for now. Please tell your former shipmates about the new website and the association and if you don’t have a Tingira tie, polo shirt or cap, get in sooner rather than later, they are shipping rather fast from the Secs store at present!
